Question:

Road Trip: Toronto to ?

My husband and I are planning a road trip at the end of August. Neither of us has seen much of "Canada". We would like to leave from Toronto and see a few places. One problem is that we only have 5-7 days to go and come back. Any suggested travel plans/iteneraries/destinations? We wouldn't mind staying at a few good hotels on the way.

  1. Definitely think about visiting Montreal. It truly is a beauty to behold, with plenty of old-world charm.

The biggest issue for the two of you is that Canada has so much room between its major metropolitan areas. So unless you're willing to spend the money to fly places (which kind of defeats the purpose of a road trip, doesn't it?), I'd say you're pretty limited in your destinations - because there's no way you'll have anything approaching 'quality time' if you have to drive around the Great Lakes to head West.

  2. I agree with others I would definetely go to Montreal.Have fun

  3. Having travelled in both directions, I can assure you, westbound is long and boring.  Toronto to Montreal is quick and easy.  Once there, you can easily go North to the Laurentians, East to the Townships and ultimately New Brunswick or south to New York or Vermont

  4. I would take a trip from Toronto to Niagra Falls first. IT is about 1.5 hour drive and usually one day is a good time to spend. Then Toronto to Ottawa to see the parliament buildings and then on to Montreal.  You could stop at the 1000 islands along the way.

  5. Montreal its very different form Toronto and you'll enjoy it

  6. Well, out from one big city (Toronto) and into another big city (Montreal) isn't my idea of a relaxing road trip.  Out of the fire and into the frying pan....

May I suggest you start from Toronto and head to Wasaga beach.  Stay someplace and then go to Tobermory, take a Fantom Five cruise, check the shops, stop at the beaches along HWY 6, stay overnight, visit Sauble Beach, the shops, stay overnight at Southampton and take HWY 21 to Goderich and stay overnight.  Stay along the route longer if you'd like.  When you drive home, please stop at St. Jacob's.

Oh the country, the beaches, the lake...ahhh...

  7. TORONTO TO MONTREAL!!!! Montreal is AMAZING. It's beautiful and historic, it's like your in france, cobblestone streets  historic buildings, awesome shopping and AMAZING nightlife. It only takes 6 hours to drive there (5-5 1/2 if you drive fast) it's even better in the summer, and i suggest that you stay in "old montreal", thats where all of the history is. but even just downtown montreal is awesome too.
