My friend and I are considering taking a road trip to the beach, possibly around 2,000 miles away with my ten-month-old daughter. Besides the necessecities(diapers, wipes, clothes, toys, binky, etc.) what should we bring for her? Your input is appreciated.

  1. That really is a long ways to go by car.  If possible, travel as much as you can at a time when your daughter is normally sleeping. If you can sit by her when your friend is driving, you can point out the scenery and talk about it. Some kids will listen to reading stories until your voice gives out. A portable DVD player with preschool DVDs can be helpful. Don't forget snacks...preferable things like cheerios that are not too messy...a few favorite toys...diapers...pacifier, blanket or favorite item to sleep with.

I don't know if she's walking yet, but we liked to stop at a McDonald's with a play land.  That way our kids could run and play and burn energy while we ate.  Then we let them eat in the car.

  2. Of course your going to pack all of her esentails.  Consider a pack n play for sleeping.  Also invest in a Portable DVD player for the car.  I brought one at Sams for 120 and it was a life saver for my long road with my 14month old.  Just get some learning DVDs...seasame street, Tigger and pooh...etc.  Also look into a portable tray to place over the car seat just in case she needs a snack or a hard surface to play on.

Make sure you take breaks from the car to get her some fresh air.
