  1. A good idea if you have not had a growth spurt yet is to purchase a bike with compact geometry as it will have an extra long seatpost which allows extra room for growth.

Alternatively when you purchase a bike you can get one that is too big for you and fit a smaller stem ( the bit connects handlebars to fork) which makes the reach shorter so is better for a shorter person.

A good idea is to know your height and inside leg measurement. Standing in your socks, with your legs approximately 6 inches apart, take a book and place it between your legs and move it up as far as it will go. Keeping the book parallel to the ground, measure the distance from the floor to the top of the book. This will give your inside leg measurement and subsequentlyyour stand over height

Here is a table that may help you

    Frame Size

    Inside Leg Range

    44cm (17”)

    27”-30”

    46cm (18”)

    27”-31”

    50cm (19.5”)

    28”-32”

    53cm (20.5”)

    29"-33"

    55cm (21.5”)

    30"-34"

    56cm (22”)

    31"-35"

    58cm (22.5”)

    32"-36"

    59cm (23”)

    33"-37"

    62cm (24.5”)

    34"-38"

The bets thing is to go in to your local bike shop and chat to an employye who can see you in the flesh and try you out on a few bikes - you never know they may even let you test ride one!

    Hope this helps
