just another thought, what do you think would get a road player more games, dressing like you have money, casual dress, or dressing way down? im sure there are many variables, depending in what location your in, but i've seen road players dress to the 9's, and i seen a world class player, about strickland's speed, who looked like he just crawled out of a dumpster, and is probablly one of the best unknown players of all time. wierd question i know, just curious on thoughts, and how it might affect the way people perceive them, in a way which will effect their opponet's thoughts on matching up with them, and the amount of bet. thanks

  1. I would say dress casual. If you dress too bad some people might to start to wonder as soon as you walk in the door.

  2. Interesting question, Bone.

I've seen Keith McCreedy come into the pool hall dressed in cut-offs, a sloppy shirt, and flip-flops. Of course, anyone who knew anything about pool, recognized him immediately. He still had NO problem finding a few big money games with house pros and various road players. We DID comment on his sloppy attire. Looking like a bum only drew MORE attention to him, as we all knew he was a pro. Just the same, our comments didn't effect him in the least -- he came to play pool --and play, he did!

I've seen road players dress casual, but not sloppily, for the most part. To the average pool player, he/she is more likely to take on a challenge with a player in very casual attire. For the well-seasoned player, he/she will play anyone regardless of attire. They'll only want to see the money first!

It's not about the attire, it's all about the money when it comes to road playing. Some pool establishments have a dress code. I think it's important to be comfortable and practical if you're going to be playing for hours on end. There's no need to stick out like a sore thumb in any case.

  3. dress like your rich and walk in asking alot of questions about how to play pool. then play a bad game with your friends and lose on purpose. act all cocky and then make alot of bets. its called hustling if you didnt know but you probably did

  4. I would just dress casual. I would not walk into a bar dressed with slacks and just polished shoes that would say im rich and going to take your money. A lot of times if you just wear jeans and a polo not tucked in then you can talk to the people that are shooting pool and a lot of times they will know of someone there that is willing to play right then.

  5. I would just be me and wear what I normally do but always carry myself with a demeanor that suggests you're going to lose regardless of what I look like. I can read a lot more into a person by looking into their eyes than I can by reading the designer label on their shirt.

That's just my two points worth.
