I'm 17 years old,senior.

Since my parents are soon to be moving to another state and I might as well follow until I feel I'm independent enough,I want to know what should be my requirements to feel and be an independent person.I'm already pretty mature in a way, academically I think I still need to improve in certain things like grammar and math skills. But,besides that like what I've had in mind is learning to drive, cooking, opening a bank account and most importantly get a job..I don't know the thing is my friend wants to move in together, but I don't feel independent and I want to be.

What do you think it takes?

A good head over your shoulder,education..how can i prepare myself.

I'm about to graduate next year,I feel like time is running out ...

One more thing, how can I convince my parents that by me being independent it won't mean that I'll be in need of help within then next months and end up pregnant like my sisters.

  1. It sounds like you are putting too much emphasis on becoming independent from your parents.

Instead, you should concentrate more on obtaining the best education that you can, developing interpersonal skills and learning about the real world by working at a part time job.

There is no rush or need to gain independence at an early age.  Instead, it is more important to develop and implement life skills which will make you a productive and contributing member of society.

If you need to stay with your parents a few extra years in order to develop those skills, then, so be it.
