Road travel from Lhasa (China) to Pokhara (Nepal)?

Now at US, I and my friend are going soon to our parents in Lhasa and Pokhara. Instead of traveling separately to our destinations, we are planning to fly to Lhasa, stay a few days, and drive to Pokhara.

We both have our country's driving licenses.

Has anybody travelled by car between China/Nepal before?

  1. Theoretically, it seems possible. Try that. Entering Nepal with Chinese vehicle may not be problem, as I have seen several indian vehicles in Nepal. Probably you need to pay tax at the border. You can drive with your US license in Nepal as a tourist, or get an international permit from AAA.com. One of you has Nepal license, so it won't be a problem. But be careful while driving a right-hand-drive vehicle in Nepal, we drive on the left!!!!
