Driving a Wagon R 3 Years old (24K Kms on the Odometer). Prefer to drive only during the daylight hours and 8-10 hours driving in a stretch is not a problem. Need to explore the interior towns enroute as will have at least three weeks at my disposal.

  1. get a copy of the "the lonely planet" for india

    i used it while travelling for such kind of trips,it has the exact and accurate information about each place in india,includin accomadation,food etc.

    the book is bit expensive but the information in it is very valuable,i tired searching a ebook for it but i couldnt find one

    so if u get a ebook of it plz send me also

  2. See these detailed highway maps at http://mapsofindia.com

    Read the travel forums at http://indiamike.com

  3. When are you planning this trip?  In the monsoons some of the roads may be in awful condition, and post monsoons will remain so.  If you want only coastal or near coastal roads you may be better off starting the journey from Goa.  Check mapmyindia.com for on line routes.  Also post on indiamike.com for a better response and recommendations.

  4. National highway from Delhi to Ahmedabad is good. From there, take the road to Kambat (Cambay), approximately halfway mark, you'll hit the coast. Then on:

    Bharuch (Broach), Surat- nearby, Valsad, Daman*, Dahanu in Gujarat (Daman is part of a Union territory);

    Gholvad, Tarapur, Bassein, Vehar, Mumbai, Uran, Alibagh, Murud, Janjira, Suvarnadurg, Dabhol, Jaigarh, Ratnagiri, Vijayadurg, Malwan, Vengurla in Maharashtra;

    Mapuca, Panaji, Madgaon, Canacona in Goa;

    Karwar, Ankola, Gokarn, Kumta, Honavar, Coondapr, Udupi, Mangaluru in Karnataka;

    Kumbla, Kasargod, Bekal, Kannur (Cannanore), Tellicheri, Mahe*, Badagara, Calicut (Kozhicode), Beypore, Ponnani, Chowghat, Cranganore, Ernakulam, Kochi (Cochin),

    Mattancheri, Shertally, Alappuzha (Aleppey), Haripad, Mavellikara, Kayankulam, Chavara, Tangasseri, Kollam (Quilon), Parur, Tiruvanantapuram (Trivandrum), Suchindram in Kerala (Mahe is part of another Union territory);

    Kanya kumari (Cape Comorin) the southern most point in mainland India, in Tamilnadu.

    Innumarable rivers (bridges are there) make the road not exactly along the coast within sight of it.

    Of course, you will carry road maps. Till you reach Mumbai you'll follow WesternExpress highway in parts.

    As far as possible take the help of 'Google Earth' on laptop.
