Having traveled around Australia a few times I have stopped at many Roadhouses and worked at a few. I would like to hear about your experiences, funny stories, complaints etc. when visiting our Outback Watering Holes

  1. Picture this: The year is 1981, we arrived fresh from Germany, driving around North Queensland. Another hot day, we find a pub somewhere out in the sticks, but they are not allowed to open before 5pm. It is a bit after 4 and we are VERY thirsty.

The owner, bless his heart, sneaks us in the backdoor.

We order drinks and settle along the bar.

The doors open and a few more people come in.

A local, looking 100% the part of the Aussie "bushy", picks up his guitar and starts to sing.

Soon everybody joins in. The atmosphere was one of hospitality, friendship, fun and all things good. Nobody cared that we weren't locals and not even Aussies.

I still think back to that day from time to time, even 27 years later!

How is that for leaving a lasting impression?

I hate the heat, but I sure LOVE Australia!
