Moffat Believes Edinburgh Can Win
Edinburgh coach, Rob Moffat, has started talking his team up ahead of the new season by saying that he thinks his side can win the Magners League.
Edinburgh have made a few sensible additions to their playing squad and have been going quietly about their business as the new season starts to approach. Moffat hopes these new signings will add to the squad and make them a real competitive unit against some other good sides in the division.
The team's problem in recent seasons has been finding the correct consistency to mount a title challenge. They have shown in various games that quality tactics can win them matches against better opposition.
It's important to consider what real value the new signings are going to add to the team and whether or not consistency is the main problem, before you decide to back Edinburgh in the new campaign.
The Signings
The new signings, featuring such stalwarts as Argentinean lock  Esteban Lozada and prop Jack Gilding,   have created a number of positives. Moffat has been very clever in the players that he has brought in because they add real value to weak areas of the team.
The new signings have added competition in the squad and this means that all of the players are constantly on edge. This will be important because if someone gets injured then there will be a replacement ready and waiting to get stuck in for the team.
Moffat has also talked of how the club have done a great deal of work away from the players. Coaches and other members of the club have worked out the statistical weaknesses of Edinburgh and the strengths of other clubs in the league.
Moffat said: "Alex Grove will add to a midfield mix that was already competitive, and Esteban Lozada and Netani Talei will each contribute something different. They're experienced players who have played in top leagues, and they'll come at it from a different angle. They'll be good for the team and good for the coaches."
Consistency
Consistency seems to have been one of the main problems that has held back the team in recent times. This is something that the fans and members of the club have agreed on over the close season.
The reason why a lack of consistency is so disruptive to the team is because it stops any positive feelings among the players from lingering for a long time. A good win can quickly be followed by a bad defeat and everything positive is forgotten about immediately.

One of the reasons for this could be the number of foreigners playing in a very Scottish side. This makes communication a little more difficult but the point is that Edinburgh are now over this and it should not be a problem next season.
Moffat added: "If we're going to sign non-Scots, we have to make sure it's the right person, because with only two professional teams, we have to develop Scottish talent."
Betting Advice
Edinburgh look like a fairly decent punt for the Magners League title next season. The problem is that you won't know if they have the consistency needed to win the league until the season has started. If they start well then the odds will shorten but this may just be a price you have to pay.
If you want to pick a new player to back then go for Alex Grove. He has a lot of experience of playing in the league and gets into very advanced attacking positions. Keep this at the front of your mind whether you're going to bet in-play or before matches.
