Rob Muffels clinches Boys 800m freestyle gold: Day four – European Junior Swimming Championships
Rob Muffels of Germany clinched gold medal of the Boys 800m freestyle on fourth day of the 2012 European Junior Swimming Championships in Antwerp, Belgium on Saturday, July 7.
The German teenage veteran spoiled the party of his challengers with his gruelling form in the distant freestyle event. Muffels stayed considerably ahead of his rivals throughout the event and faced no difficulty in snaring gold medal of the discipline.
With his laudable efforts, he enjoyed a two-body length lead over his strongest challenger and tapped the wall with the timing of 7 minutes and 59.43 seconds.
His title-claiming effort remained 2.22 seconds ahead of Antonio Arroyo Perez of Spain, who captured silver medal of the discipline with the timing of 8 minutes and 01.65 seconds.
The second position holder was trailed by Marcin Kaczmarski of Poland, who stayed nearly half body length behind and completed his swim with an effort of 8 minutes and 02.13 seconds for bronze medal.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Jan Micka of Czech Republic, who stayed 1.21 seconds apart and made his way to the finishing blockade with the timing of 8 minutes and 03.34 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was secured by Lucas Vigorito of France, who remained nearly four body lengths apart and emerged on the finishing end by posting a time of 8 minutes and 07.24 seconds.
Vigorito was chased by Poul Zellmann of Germany, who stayed almost 1.70 seconds slower and produced a timing of 8 minutes and 08.99 seconds for sixth position.
Similarly, Zellmann was chased by OErskov Anton Ipsen of Denmark, who stayed 0.68 seconds behind and secured seventh position of the discipline with the timing of 8 minutes and 09.67 seconds.
Eighth finest spot of the race was obtained by Filip Zaborowski of Poland, who stayed 0.41 seconds slower from his former finisher and touched the wall with the timing of 8 minutes and 10.08 seconds.
Muffels was overjoyed with his stupendous effort in the sixteen-lap discipline and addressed his fans by saying that he will try to defend his title at future meets.
