Rob Ryan hopes to see improvement in Dallas Cowboys defence – NFL News
As the Cowboys prepare to face off New York Giants in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season opener on September 05, they have not forgotten the defeats the Giants had handed them in the 2011 season.
Throughout the 2011 season, Cowboys and Giants competed for dominancy in the National Football Conference (NFC) East division so as to reach the playoffs.
As the Giants slumped halfway through the season, the Cowboys got supremacy of the division, but their last few games (including two against Giants) did not yield positive results and the Cowboys were eventually eliminated from playoff contention.
The Cowboys defence was not up to the mark during the last few defeats and their defensive coordinator Rob Ryan also took the responsibility for the failure.
With plenty of offseason time to work on improving the defence, Ryan is now hopeful of a better display from the team. He acknowledges that Giants were better than the Cowboys last year, but believes that his team can overcome the defending Super Bowl champions
this time.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, Ryan said:
“I had a lot to do with it, and I don’t want that to happen again. Did it ruin my offseason? No. They were the best team in the league. They won the Super Bowl. But do I plan to do something about it? Yeah. We plan on getting a h**l of a lot better.”
Ryan has some new plans for his defence to tackle Giants, who improved miraculously towards the end of the last season to win the NFL title.
Giants quarterback Eli Manning is considered one of the best in the league at present and he is ready to lead the offence again. Ryan knows Manning’s strengths and wants to put pressure on the Giants quarterback. He said of Manning:
“He’s smart with the ball, he’s been in the system, he knows it inside out, he’s done a great job, he’s been a leader, he makes throws. But we’ve got to make it tougher on him – that’s for sure – than we did the last two times we played him.”
