Rob Smedley believes Felipe Massa will come stronger in the British GP – Formula 1 news
Ferrari race engineer Rob Smedley believes that Felipe Massa will come stronger in 2012 British Grand Prix which is to be held at Silverstone Circuit on July 8.
Massa struggled during the start of the season as he could only score 2 points in the first five grands prix. Nevertheless, he made a strong comeback in the Monaco GP held at Circuit de Monaco in Monte Carlo as he secured 6th place finish after
starting from 7th grid position.
Although, he has only scored 1 point in the last two races, nevertheless, Smedley asserted that the Brazilian driver will hopefully strike back in the approaching race.
“Right now, going into Silverstone, there is very little that Felipe is lacking to be back where he was in terms of driving and confidence in car,” Smedley said. “You need things to go your way and at last race we didn't have that. Going back to Canada,
he made mistake at start, which changed everything and in Monaco he was stuck in train of traffic for 70 laps. However, in terms of his pace in those recent races and way he was driving and his confidence, he is different driver to the way he was at start
of season.”
In addition, he said that the track of the next race will provide some good opportunities to Massa so as to show his true potential. Moreover, he said that they have planned some important upgrades to enhance the pace of F2012 in the forthcoming race.
Presently, Massa is standing at 16th place in the drivers’ rankings with 11 points. Additionally, he is 7 points ahead of Jean-Eric Vergne of Toro Rosso and 5 points behind Bruno Senna of Williams.
On the other hand, his teammate, Fernando Alonso is currently leading the drivers’ championship with 111 points and is 20 points ahead of Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing.
Even though, the Spaniard has succeeded in limiting the damage for this team which expected to face difficulties during the start. However, the Scarlet team wants both the drivers to perform well in the season ahead.
