Rob White claims V6 engines will sound like a Formula 1 engine – Formula 1 news
Renault technical director Rob White has said that the new turbocharged V6 engines which are expected to be introduced in 2014 are going to sound like a Formula 1 engine.
He said no matter what happens, Formula 1 will always have the best engines in all of the motorsports.
“The first thing to say is that whatever engines we have, F1 is going to remain the pinnacle of motor racing,” he said.
The new engines have been introduced mainly to cut the costs spent on fuel and to make the sport more efficient than ever before.
The only concern about these new engines is whether they are going to be powerful enough and produce sound like a current V8 engine does. Most of the Formula 1 fans watch the sport because of the high revving engines which is expected to go down once the
new regulations are implemented.
People like Formula 1 Management chief Bernie Ecclestone and some others are still concerned whether these engines will produce the same Formula 1 sound as this is going to be a major drop in power. The V6 engines will have the power to produce 15,000 rpm
(revolutions per minute) which is 3,000 rpm less than the current V8s.
“The cars are going to be the quickest cars around a closed circuit, and it is not because we are going to be saving fuel and having fuel consumption races that the cars are going to be breaking down or running out of fuel all over the place, or that they
are going to be like shopping cars. These engines are going to be very loud. They are going to be very high-revving engines,” said White.
White also claims that since the engines will use a single turbocharger and a single exhaust outlet, the sound of the engines is not going to change much and in fact, they are going to sound even better.
We’ll have to wait and see how the engine manufacturers use this technology to make one of the most efficient engines ever made in Motorsports history.
