Robbie Deans says he is done selecting Wallabies Rugby World Cup squad
The head coach of the Wallabies, Robbie Deans, who renewed his contract with Australian Rugby Union on August 16, has said that he is done with Australian Rugby World Cup 2011 squad and only formal announcements of players is to be made. In his talk with
journalists after arriving at Sydney Airport on August 17, Deans said that he has worked on the performance and fitness of his players and only fully fit players will be included in the final squad. Deans is expected to reveal his 30-member RWC squad on August
18.
Deans further said that he, along with the other Wallabies selectors including Jim Williams and David Nucifora, will select a balanced side for the forthcoming global show and so far no major changes are expected in his squad. The latest statement of Robbie
Deans maybe the heartbreaking for those players who have been struggling with various injuries and have not played any rugby after Super Rugby championship.
Robbie Deans told the media about his hidden planes about RWC 2011 squad and said that, “We've had all those internal selection discussions and we're clear in our mind," he said. We've been watching (the injured players) and we know where they're at but
today is an opportunity to see them and talk to them. We've got the squad resolved, it's just communicating it now.”
There are a few big names in the Wallabies injury list, who have been out of action since the conclusion of Super Rugby 15. Among the injured stars are James Slipper, Wycliff Palu and Tatafu Polota-Nau and all three are feared to be sidelined from Wallabies
final squad for RWC.
Meanwhile, Deans has not included Matt Giteau in the Wallabies line-ups for the last two games. Ex-Wallabies players Mark Ella and Stephen Larkham asked Deans to include Giteau in his final squad as he has done wonderful work for Wallabies in the past. Larkham
said that, “Gits can play anywhere, including halfback. He's very versatile, is a left-foot option and is very experienced.”
Wallabies coach Robbie Deans will announce the final squad for Rugby World Cup 2011 on Thursday, August 18.
