Robbie Deans suspects that Australian international fly half Quade Cooper has ruptured his ACL – Rugby News
Australian national Rugby Union team's head coach, Robbie Deans, suspects that his star international fly half, Quade Cooper, has ruptured his ACL. Deans made these comments at the end of the
Wallabies victory in the third place play-off of the 2011 Rugby World Cup (RWC) tournament on Friday, October 21.
Wallabies defeated Wales 21 – 18 at Eden Park, Auckland to finish third in the RWC tournament.
The 2011 Super Rugby top-scorer, Quade Cooper, sustained injury during the game. Providing details, Deans added, “Quade was OK, he is aware it is a significant injury but with technology these
days he will come back good to go.”
Deans further added players after their ACL operations, return stronger as compared to their post injury condition. He expressed his confidence that Cooper will be fit to participate in the
2012 Super Rugby season.
Cooper plays for the Queensland Reds in the Super Ruby competition. He has been consistent performers for them for the last couple of seasons. Particularly, during 2011 Super Rugby season,
he played an important role in enabling the Australian Super Rugby , Queensland Reds in their title winning campaign for the season.
Deans has again raised his support for the under fire Cooper. He added, “Obviously that whole experience [at the World Cup on New Zealand soil] and adversity will challenge him. But I've got
no doubt he will come out of that stronger for it.”
New Zealand born Cooper received severe criticism for his poor performance on the field during the Rugby Union’s premier tournament.
Beside Cooper, Wallabies utility backs player Kurtley Beale is also injured. Beale sustained a hamstring injury, which ruled him out of the Friday’s Bronze medal game against the Wales.
Deans added that the third place deciding game was tough for both sides, as both teams were looking to end the tournament on a high note following their defeats in their respective semi-final
games. He termed the match as very tiring, which was characterised by the tight defence.  He said, “It was pretty tiring with a high attrition rate but the boys showed what it meant by the way they stuck at it.”
