Robbie Keane happy to see transfer window closed
Today, Tottenham Hotspur striker Robbie Keane was happy to see the transfer window slam shut, and is looking forward to plying his trade for the English Premier League club.
The Republic of Ireland international had been linked with moves to Besiktas, Aston Villa and West Ham United as well as with a return to Celtic, with whom he spent the second half of last season on loan. However, the 30 year-old has stayed in London with Harry Redknapp’s squad.
Speaking about the speculation, he told reporters that, "It doesn't really affect me. For a long time now since I started off, there's always speculation, but unfortunately, I can't help speculation. I can just concentrate on what I am doing. I was quite relaxed about the transfer window, I wasn't really too bothered. All the clubs are probably glad now that it is closed and everyone can concentrate on playing football. There won't be a lot of speculation now for at least a couple of months."
Joined Spurs in 2002
Keane started his career with the Wolverhampton Wanderers after coming through the ranks there. He has also enjoyed spells at Coventry City, Inter Milan and Leeds United before moving to Spurs in the summer of 2002 for a fee of seven million pounds.
In his first six-year stint with the White Hart Lane outfit, Keane netted 107 goals in 254 games in total. He picked up a League Cup winners’ medal in the 2007-08 campaign, scoring 23 goals in his most successful season.
Keane is in his second spell with Spurs after returning from Liverpool in February 2009. During his loan at Celtic, he showed that he has lost none of his prowess in front of goal after netting 16 times in 19 games.
The striker has also played for his country 100 times and is Ireland’s all-time leading goal scorer with 43 international strikes to his name.
