It has been reported that Robbie Keane is on the verge of joining West Ham United from Tottenham as part of a cut-price deal. West Ham had been pushing for the signature of the player for quite some time now, but it seems like they might finally land the
veteran striker in the next week or so.
Keane has spent most of his season sitting on the Tottenham bench and as a result has made only nine appearances for the side, which saw him score one goal so far. Harry Redknapp, the manager at Tottenham had previously stated that he planned on keeping
Keane around, however with the progress of the season the manager changed his decision and stated that he would much rather allow the player to leave, in hopes of him not getting wasted on the bench.
Keane was previously pursued by the likes of Birmingham, Newcastle, Fulham and Aston Villa over the course of the last few months. But it now seems like West Ham might be able to land the player and beat all the competition, which they had. On the other
hand, the team might even be able to land the player for nearly half of what he was valued at. Tottenham had slapped an eight million pound price tag on their striker, but with the price not encouraging any buyers, they are now willing to let go of him for
nearly half of that initial asking price.
Keane had previously hinted that he would like to push through to a team, that were competing for some sort of cup or league, but it seems like he will have to settle for West Ham. However on the bright side, if he does choose to make the move to Upton Park,
then he could potentially see out the season with a Carling cup.
According to most football experts, the only hiccup that West Ham could face in their pursuit to land Keane, is the current managerial situation at the club. Avram Grant’s stay at Upton Park might come to an end sooner or later and if that does happen, then
whoever comes in after him might not be too keen on landing Keane.
Nonetheless if that does not happen, then we could potentially see Robbie Keane see out the rest of his career in a West Ham shirt.
