Robbie King and Josh Atherton lead final series of 2012 RS Feva World Championship
Lighter winds greeted the 2012 RS Feva World Championship participants when they were about to launch their boats on the Southampton waters. The breeze was blowing around up to five knots in the morning.
However, after some time, the winds started building up and at the time the fleet was about to begin the proceedings, the forecast became moderate and the sailors were in good shape to proceed towards the finish line.
With some superb sailing skills, Ireland’s Robbie King and Josh Atherton managed to cash the opportunity and took advantage of ideal winds to grab the overall lead of the regatta with six points.
King and Atherton showed some patient boat handling, perfect tactics and good positioning which helped them to hit the top podium place.
The first race of the opening day did not go according to their hopes as they crossed the finish line in fourth podium place. However, the next two races brought them on the top position as they cruised into two billet positions in second and third race.
Making their way to the top of the fleet standings was indeed an encouraging sign for the Irish pair and they must be feeling very confident for the upcoming races.
With five-point difference from the fleet leaders, Great Britain’s Jamie Smith and Piers Nicholls finished the first day proceedings of the 2012 RS Feva World Championship on the second podium spot with 11 points. They compiled a sixth, second and third
finish to make it to Number 2 position.
