Robbie Renwick wins Men’s 200m freestyle title - British Gas ASA National Championships
Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Robbie Renwick, won the Men’s 200m freestyle crown in the 2011 British Gas ASA National Championships, being held at the Manchester Aquatics Centre in Sheffield, on June 15, 2011.
The Scottish swimmer edged out David Carry and Jak Scott in the race with a sterling time of 1 minute and 47.46 seconds. Renwick has now elevated to the Tenth position in the international rankings.
After the completion of the race, Renwick said, “That felt quite comfortable despite being a bit jaded after last night's 400m event. I'm just so pleased to have the qualifying time. I know I have more in me and that race gives me a chance to step up again
in Shanghai.”
David Carry secured the second spot in the corresponding event with a victorious time of 1 minute and 49.48 seconds, while Jak Scott earned third place honours with a time of 1 minute and 49.58 seconds.
Carry claimed that the race between him and Scott really went down to the wire, but he eventually won the match due to his resilient stamina and furious speed with a fringe margin of 0.10 seconds.
Renwick was pleased with his brilliant performance in the 200m freestyle event. The win has also booked him a place to compete at the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai, this July.
While speaking about the meet, Renwick added, “I’m feeling very positive as that was one of my best times in the past two years.”
He further said that he will now be more determined to deliver his best in China.
Renwick claimed the golden crown in the Men’s 200m freestyle final, along with a silver spot on the podium in the 4x200m free-style at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
He nabbed one silver and one bronze medal in both the 200m and 4x200m free-style events at the 2008 World Championships in Manchester.
In another event at the championships, David Carry, Jak Scott and Ross Davenport confirmed their places for the Men’s 4x200m free-style relay at the upcoming Shanghai World Championships.
