Former Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 midfielder Robbie Savage has praised manager Martin O’Neill and claimed he was “the best there is” after observing the effect he’s had at Sunderland.
O’Neill, the former Aston Villa manager, took over the Black Cats manager position after Steve Bruce was sacked in mid-season. Since taking over, the Northern Irish manager has delivered terrific results; taking Sunderland up to tenth position on the English
Premier League table.
In their last six fixtures, since O’Neill took charge of the club, the Black Cats have lost once, drawn once and won four times. Savage, who played under O’Neill previously, claimed the manager had the ability to get the best out of his players.
Savage said in an interview:
“At man-management he is the best there is, incredible.
That is why Martin O'Neill is one of the best. Tactically he would not compare with Arsene Wenger but management is more than just picking a team.
He knows players. He knew he could hammer me and I'd come out and want to prove him wrong. Other players would go into their shell if he did that.”
The 37-year-old admitted he felt O’Neill was similar to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Northern-Ireland-c2972 international had the gift of picking the right team.
Sunderland’s recent win came against Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium, with the Black Cats taking all three points with a 4-1 victory. Savage felt the manager had more to do with the win than the players, having chosen the right players to go out on the
field.
The other teams they have beaten so far are Manchester City, Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314 and Blackburn Rovers. They finally look to be out of the danger zone and according to Savage, O’Neill was to thank for his ability of getting the best out of the likes of Lee
Cattermole.
He continued:
“The first thing Martin did after they won that game was to run on the pitch, put his arm around http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lee-Cattermole-c21868 and he would have been telling him how good he was, making him feel 10-feet tall.
The players will have left that stadium thinking 'we can beat anybody'.”
