Robbie Williams: My favourite player has always been Stephen Hendry
Every amateur snooker player looks up to a veteran, a player who has ruled the game and has inspired youngsters to pick up a cue. Young players thrive on inspiration from the greats of the game and
one such youngster has revealed his source of inspiration.
Robbie Williams recently revealed that he has been a huge fan of Stephen Hendry since the day he started following his game. There
may be many players imitating Hendry, but Williams likes his break building ability and finds himself following the veteran’s footsteps ahead in his career.
Hendry is surely one of the top cuemen of this era and his snooker skills are second to none. Many other snooker stars along with Williams see him as their mentor and follow his playing style. The
record seven-time World Snooker Champion has his own unique break building style that impresses many snooker players including Robbie Williams.
While speaking to a local snooker website, Williams said, “My favourite player has always been Stephen Hendry. He's the ultimate professional. At his peak, no-one came close to matching his break-building
ability or his desire to win, even on the brink of defeat. You only have to look at the amount of titles he's won to see just how good he really was.”
Williams had a splendid start in this season as he made a huge impact in the first event of Players Tour Championships (PTC) at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. The 24-year-old took care of
big guns like Ali Carter and Peter Ebdon in PTC Event 1. But unfortunately he couldn’t reach the finals, as Graeme Dott defeated him 4-0 in the fourth round of PTC1.
While speaking about his experience at the PTC, Williams said, “The PTC1 was a great start to the season for me. Beating Peter Ebdon and Ali Carter was a real boost for my confidence, as leading up
to the tournament, I wasn't cueing particularly great.”
Williams has plans to participate in all PTC events this year so that he can grab a pro tour card and also upgrade his rankings. He wants to be in Top 64 of the world and hopes PTC events will play
an important part to achieve his targets.
