Baltimore Orioles’ second baseman Robert Andino had a memorable day with the bat as hit a decisive RBI and went 1-for-5 with an average of .263 in the Orioles’ 4-3 win against the Boston Red Sox at Oriole Park, Baltimore on September 28.
David Ortiz walked in the first inning but Jacoby Ellsbury popped out and Dustin Pedroia ground out without scoring even a single run for Boston. Ortiz got out to second base when Adrian Gonzalez hit a grounder into fielder’s choice to second base. Similarly,
J.J. Hardy doubled to deep right-field but Andino and Nick Markakis both struck-out while Vladimir Guerrero ground out at the bottom of the first inning.
J.D. Drew singled off right-field but Marco Scutaro popped out, Ryan Lavarnway ground out and Carl Crawford flied out during the second inning. Adam Jones reached to short-stop on an infield single but got out at second base when Mark Reynolds hit a grounder
into a double play at the bottom of second inning.
In the third inning, Red Sox scored their first run while Orioles went ahead 2-1 by adding two runs at the bottom of the third. Pedroia bunted a single-run drive to centre-field and Mike Aviles contributed one run. Ellsbury moved to second base at the top
of the third. On the other side, Hardy struck a two-run homer (380 feet) towards left-field and Nolan Reimold posted a tie-breaking run for the Orioles.
Red Sox tied the game 2-2 during the fourth inning when Scutaro scored a single run on the balk of Orioles’ starter Alfredo Simon. Red Sox went ahead 3-2 at the top of the fifth inning when Pedroia hit a tie-breaking homer (390 feet) towards left-field.
Simon pitched just over four innings with an ERA of 4.90 and struck-out two batters. He permitted three runs, three earned runs, three walks, six hits and one home-run from his 87 pitches.
Orioles went ahead 4-3 at the bottom of the ninth when the batters scored two crucial runs. Kyle Hudson scored a tie run when Reimold hit a ground rule double to deep centre-field. Andino singled off left-field and Reimold contributed a tie-breaking run
to give the Orioles a convincing lead.
