Robert Bautista-Agut hammers Vincent Millot in first round – Orleans Challenger 2011
Vincent Millot of France squared-off against Spanish Robert Bautista-Agut in the first round of the Orleans Challenger contested in France, on Tuesday October 18th. It was the second meeting between the two and a great
opportunity for the Spanish to level the head-to-head tally and he exactly did that; winning the match in an hour. The straight sets victory with a cumulative score of 6-1, 6-3 helped the 23-year-old Spanish to place a berth in the second round of the event.
Both players had won six of their last nine encounters and were looking to reach the next rounds of the tournament by performing well. French was just 12 ranks below the Spanish who was ranked 179th in the ATP world
rankings. Considerable crowd had turned out to watch their local wildcard entrant play and were expecting a good contest.
First set was extremely disappointing for the home crowd who saw their player crumple in front of the Spaniard in every aspect. There was nothing at all to spare for the wildcard entrant and he looked rusty and out of touch.
Spanish registered 88% first points win rate and followed it up with an impressive 57% return points win rate which was enough to thump the youngster on the back foot and take the first set. His well placed ace and two break-points
were some of the highlights from the second set.
Trailing by one set and thumped back and forth in all departments of the game, Millot was totally down and out and couldn’t recover from this setback. An impressive second serve points winning rate of 86% and cracking 80% return
serve points win rate was enough for Spanish to end the misery for the local boy for the second and last time.
Millot could only break his opponent’s serve once whilst Bautista-Agut won three breakpoints. He won the match with a total of 57 points compared to just 31 of his opponent and proceeds to second round of the tournament in commanding
fashion.
Robert Bautista-Agut now plays his next match against Augustin Gensse of France in the second round of the tournament.
