Robert Bollier claims Men’s 200m butterfly gold: Day three - Santa Clara International Grand Prix
Robert L Bollier of Unattached-PC claimed gold medal of the Men’s 200m butterfly on day three of the 2012 Santa Clara International Grand Prix in California on Sunday, June 3.
Santa Clara is the last stop of the 2012 USA Swimming Grand Prix Series that allows the international swimmers to race each other in their exclusive events.
The 22-year-old Bollier demonstrated his stupendous efforts in the distant butterfly event and met expectations of his supporters by winning gold medal of the discipline.
With his relentless efforts, he sustained his fastest qualification spot of the event and occupied the crown by keeping his challengers at a comfortable bay.
Bollier continued his supremacy from the start as he ended his first lap of the race in a time of 26.57 seconds. He was followed by Michael P Klueh of Fast Swim Team-C, who covered the equivalent distance with an effort of 27.23 seconds.
The second lap saw gruelling efforts of Bollier, who continued his nerve-wrecking form and completed his initial half of the race with the timing of 56.42 seconds.
He remained full body length ahead of Klueh, who ended his 100 metres of the swim with an effort of 57.55 seconds.
With his persistent efforts, Bollier made a significant improvement in his pace in the third lap and reached the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 26.66 seconds.
He remained 2.03 seconds ahead of Klueh, who ended his 150 metres of the race by submitting a time of 1 minute and 28.69 seconds.
Last lap of the race was overpowered by Bollier, who made no mistake and sprinted his way towards the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 56.77 seconds for gold medal.
He remained nearly three seconds faster from his following rival, who finishing second with an effort of 1 minute and 59.27 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Klueh’s teammate, Scott T Clary, who clocked a timing of 2 minutes and 00.53 seconds.
Furthermore, the championship came to an end after the conclusion of all planned events in Men and Women’s category.
