Robert Chiro wins PokerStars Sunday Million – Poker News
Prior to the gala of PokerStars’ 10th Anniversary, starting next month, the last Sunday of November was glittered with a number of events for players to get warmed up for the mega event. The Sunday Million was won by Robert Chiro of Brazil, earning more than $200,000 to get some momentum right away.
With $200 + $15 but-in, the event attracted 6,609 entrants for a $1,321,800 prize pool on Sunday evening. The final table of the event hosted nine top players of the initial rounds, with ‘Phantomes 124’ being the chip leader. However, it was Chiro who ultimately came out as the winner in the end and ‘Phantomes 124’ finishing at number three.
At the start of the first hand, ‘Phantomes 124’ nearly doubled the amount Chiro called in second place, forcing the six other contestants to fold and made it into a three-handed play. With an ace of clubs and seven of hearts up his sleeves, ‘Phantomes 124’ went all-in and the confident Chiro called with a pair of nines (nine of diamonds and nine of spades) in his hand. ‘Phantomes 124’ was busted when the board hit king of clubs, eight of clubs, seven of spades, six of spades and eight of spades, leaving him with just a pair of sevens against his opponent’s Wayne Gretzky.
Chiro started heads-up play with ‘chirsf44’, with the other seven contestants being eliminated one after another. Chiro was riding a 1.3:1 chip lead by then over ‘chirsf44’ and he extended his it even further by the time the final hand was played.
In the final hand of the night, Chiro opened to 1.26 million on the raiser button, with snowman in his hand, eight of spades and eight of diamonds. Hoping to end the hand with a flush, ‘chirsf44’ made a three-bet to make it three million, having an ace and queen of clubs. The confident Brazilian raised it to 7.6 million, dragging his opponent to ship it. Chiro called and with ten of spades, ten of diamonds, nine of diamonds, three of spades and king of hearts, on the board, it was all over for ‘chirsf44’, leaving the Brazilian as the victor.
