Robert Collet fancies the Nunthorpe Stakes through Wizz Kid to win a third Group 1 in the season for the trainer
Three-year-old filly, Wizz Kid, is coming off a dramatic victory in the Group 2 Prix Du Gros-Chene at Chantilly on 5 June, 2011. In a massive field of 14 three-year-old and above runners, Wizz Kis bolted for a five furlong sprint on grass.
With a narrow win over Prohibit by a head in France, trainer Robert Collet, who conditions the filly for the Mme Maeve Mahony, is optimistic about her chances in the upcoming Group 1 Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes, also run over a distance of 5 furlongs, at York
on 19 August, 2011.
Trainer Robert Collet, who also trains the 3-year-old bay filly, Immortal Verse, will bid for the third victory for the season through the daughter of Whipper in the year 2011.
Collet's last two victories came through the daughter of Pivotal, Immortal Verse, who recently climbed a mountain when she outclassed and defeated the champion mare, Goldikova, in the Group 1 Jacques Le Marois at Deauville.
The second victory through Immortal Verse came in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes for fillies at the Ascot on 17 June, 2011. In a field of 12 fillies, Immortal Verse was triumphant under Gerald Mosse, who guided the filly skillfully under a steadied start
but held up the pace.
It was a good run over a distance of 1 mile, where the jockey spurted past opponents to build up a strong run to lead the lot with a furlong remaining.
The pair stretched out well and remained in command throughout the final furlong to hit the wire and defeat Nova Hawk by a comfortable 2 ¼ lengths.
The daughter of Whipper out of Lidanski by Soviet Star, Wizz Kid despite having a Group 2 victory, raises concers for Robert Collet who would be looking for her filly to bring her A game in the Nunthorpe Stakes against a talented lot to land the third Group
1 victory for him.
Collet said earlier that Wizz Kid is in superb form and she has been given the license to go all out, mounted again by her jockey, Ioritz Mendizabal.
Moreover, coming after a good break, Wizz Kid could play this to her advantage in the 19th August meeting.
