Robert Cowell to send three runners in King's Stand Stakes at Ascot
Trainer Robert Cowell will be represented by three ace runners in the King's Stand Stakes, to be held at Royal Ascot next month. Stable star Prohibit and his two dashing mates, Monsieur Joe and Spirit Quartz, are getting ready for the Ascot adventure.
Prohibit won the Group 3 Qatar Prix Du Petit Couvert at Longchamp last season. Since then, he has been struggling with his form. The 7-year-old was last seen at Meydan, where he finished third last on the table.
Oasis Dream’s son is due to have his prep run on May 26th, when he will unleash his talent in the Temple Stakes at Haydock. On the other hand, Monsieur Joe is full of spirit following a decent performance last week.
After finishing fourth in the Al Quoz Sprint Sponsored By Emirates NBD at Meydan, the Mrs Helen Checkley-owned continued his good work, when ran at Longchamp.
The Group 3 Prix De Saint-Georges saw him missing the crown only by a short head’s distance. The 5-year-old also holds entry for the Temple Stakes, but Cowell is unlikely to run him at Haydock.
"Monsieur Joe had only been back from Dubai five days and then he went to France and ran very well at Longchamp to be beaten a short-head. He's had a busy time so we'll give him a bit of a break now and he'll go straight for the King's Stand,” said Cowell.
Spirit Quartz is new to the stable, but has quickly earned Cowell’s confidence. The 4-year-old gelding, formally trained in Italy, started off his 2012 campaign with a reasonable performance at Lingfield.
After securing the runner-up place in the Get Your Bet On At Blue Square Hever Sprint Stakes, he maintained the standards, when ran at Naas last month. The Woodlands Stakes saw him narrowly missing the crown. In his last appearance at Newmarket, he was fourth
on the table.
"Spirit Quartz will probably run in the Temple Stakes as well. After Haydock he could go for a race in France, or join the other two at Ascot. It's really good to have three really nice sprinters to go to war with," stated the trainer.
