Robert Dinwiddie enters into share of the lead at the Najeti Hotels et Golfs Open – Golf News
Robert Dinwiddie fired a bogey-free five-under par 66, the second round of the Najeti Hotels et Golfs Open presented by Neuflize OBC to take the halfway lead with first round’s sole leader Tjaart Van der Walt, on Friday, June 14,
2013.
The Najeti Hotels et Golfs Open presented by Neuflize OBC is co-sanctioned by the European Tour and the European Challenge Tour.
Because of the fact that the US Open is also being staged this week, the tournament organisers decided to co-sanction the event with the Challenge Tour, in a bid to attract some of the best players from the tier-2 tour.
Dinwiddie, who faltered for a one-over par 72 on day one, courtesy of his five bogeys against four birdies, stunned the spectators with a flawless game on day two.
Right from the beginning of the second round, he showed consistency in his game and managed to post a total of five birdies to his scorecard.
He parred each of the first four holes before adding his first shot of the day on the fifth hole. He then drained another birdie putt on the eighth hole to reach the turn in two under.
The back nine of the course also witnessed him recording pars on each of the first four holes, followed by birdies on three of the next four holes, before ending the day with another par putt on the 18th.
“I played really steady so I’m happy,” he said. “I played just as well yesterday but the weather helped. I know the course very well and I have a lot of good feelings around here. I did not think I would be leading after the afternoon
but I knew I was in a good position no matter what.”
“Considering I didn’t think I would be teeing it up, after taking a bad step on Tuesday morning and damaging a bad disc in my back, it was great,” he added.
Van der Walt, in the meantime, recorded four birdies against as many bogeys to record an even-par score on day two. Still, he managed to hold on to the share of the lead entering the weekend.
