i haven't read the article in full (i'm in the UK) but i imagine what he means is that he is trying to live his life in a better way, to make his kids proud.  that everything he does, he does because he loves his kid so much, thats his reason for living.

he is not very good at writing love letters and so he is going to act it out in his life instead, he is an actor after all , he is just sticking to his day job, that's his meaning
