Robert Fernley, Force India looking forward to their first ever home Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Force India team principal deputy Robert Fernley said the team is looking to score points at the inaugural Indian Grand Prix.
Force India had a good run at the Singapore Grand Prix, where they scored double points finish and set its sights on fifth place after overtaking Renault in the constructors’ championship. Sauber have been trying hard to catch Force India they had a strong
run in Japan and Toro Rosso in Korea, which means that the sixth position is still up for grabs.
The Indian fans will be looking for a good show from Force India at the Buddh International Circuit, they have been very consistent and Fernley seems optimistic of a good run.
“We need to try and get ourselves into the points and have a good, solid race,” Fernley said. “Hopefully the type of track that India is fits in well with our down force levels. We expect Abu Dhabi to be good as well.”
“It's not going to be hugely different from Korea, where we qualified well, and we raced well, and it was just frustrating not to be able to match certain other cars. But I think we are more consistent than the other teams that we're racing so hopefully
we can keep picking up the points,” he added.
Adrian Sutil, who has been anxiously waiting for his seat at Force India to drive at the Buddh International, admitted that the race week would be very busy for the drivers as it is expected to be quite a special event.
He further explained how the team and everyone else is looking forward to the event, and the team considers it as a home Grand Prix. There is going to be a lot of PR going on and that is why he will be there the whole week. However, he said that they should
also remain focused on the task at hand, which is to make sure the team scores the points it requires to keep their fifth place standing in the constructors’ championship intact.
The first ever Indian Grand Prix will be taking place on Sunday, October 30, 2011 and it will be interesting to see how the teams fare at a track which is as yet unknown in terms of how it is going to behave.
