Robert Forster wins fourth stage and Gregor Gazvoda takes overall lead in 2011 Tour of Qinghai Lake
UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling team’s Robert Forster won the fourth stage of 2011 Tour of Qinghai Lake on Tuesday, July 5. Gregor Gazvoda maintained his overall leader’s jersey.
The race started in Bird Island and ended in Xihaizhen. The 33-year-old German professional cyclist took a total of 3 hours, 34 minutes and 5 seconds to cover the distance of 152.4 kilometres.
Recently, he took the first place in the eighth stage of Tour de Langkawi and also won the second 2a stage of Vuelta a Asturias. He also took the third and fourth stage of Nature Valley Grand Prix.
The two riders from Colnago, CSF Inox team's Andrea Pasqualon and Sacha Modolo, tried their best to take a lead, but failed and Andrea grabbed the second place, while Sacha Modolo grabbed third spot.
Volodymyr Bileka (Amore & Vita), Sylwester Janiszewski (CCC Polsat Polkowice) and Ruslan Tleubayev (Kazakhstan) were in fifth, sixth and seventh places, respectively.
A group of three cyclists made their first breakaway including, Boris Shpilevsky (Tabriz Petrochemical Team), Michael Freiberg (V Australia) and Matej Mugerli (Perutnina Ptuj). All of them gained a lead of few second over the peloton.
Michael Freiberg was in good form and tried to build a lead, but Boris took the first sprint. After a few kilometres, Michael launched the attack and won the second sprint ahead of Boris.
However in the last sprint, Michael Freiberg and Yeung Ying Hon worked together, but Boris again increased his pace and took the third sprint of the stage.
Kristijan Durasek (Loborika Favorit) took the title of King of Mountain classification, with 9 points ahead of Biao Liu and Michael Freiberg. Dmitry Gruzdev took a lead in best Asian rider classification with a timing of 12 hours, 28 minutes ahead of Ghader Mizbani Iranagh and Amir Zargari.
Perutnina Ptuj team’s Gregor Gazvoda took the overall lead with a timing of 12 hours, 27 minutes and 56 seconds. Dmitry Grudev was the runner-up with 4 seconds and Mateusz Taciak finished third with 1 minute and 15 seconds behind Gazvoda.
The next stage will start in Xihaizhen and end in Mole Town,Qilian. All the cyclists will cover the distance of 123 kilometres.
