Robert Garcia believes it would be an honour for Rios to face Pacquiao – Boxing News
Robert Garcia, trainer for Brandon Rios, believes it would be an honour to face Filipino fight king Manny Pacquiao. According to Garcia, Rios is at the peak of his career but Pacquiao is growing old and so Rios has more advantage over the eight-division
world champion.
Top Rank’s Bob Arum spoke last week of a possible fight between Pacquiao and Rios, although he did not make it that evident. Arum iterated that the winner between Brandon Rios and Mike Alvarado would face Pacquiao next year, and Rios came out on top. In
other words, in light of Arum’s statement, Rios stands as Manny Pacquiao’s foe for next year.
“The fact that Brandon is being mentioned doesn't mean that the fight is going to happen, so they both have their own managers. We're not 100 percent that it's going to happen,” said Garcia.
“But it would be an honor just to know that we're being mentioned as a potential opponent for a guy who has been on top for the last 10 years or so,” he added.
It should be noted here that fans are hoping for a possible fight between Pacquiao and American unbeaten fighter Floyd Mayweather. However, when Arum spoke of a bout against winner of Rios vs. Alvarado, it seemed like the Hall of Fame promoter is in no mood
to schedule Pacquiao for WBC welterweight titlist Mayweather.
“I think that Brandon's style combined with Pacquiao's age and all of that, we might be able to pull of a surprise. I think that Brandon's style is just one that gives everybody problems,” added Garcia, who is confident that his fighter can defeat Pacquiao,
the number one pound for pound fighter in the world right now.
Definitely, Brandon Rios is among those fighters who can pull off a surprise pretty easily. Considering the fact that Pacquiao has been slow recently, one can expect Rios ending Pacquiao’s career smoothly.
Pacquiao is currently scheduled to face Mexican fighter Juan Manuel Marquez on December 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Pacquiao desperately needs to score a knockout against Marquez if he wants to retain his dominance in the world of boxing.
