Robert Garrigus finishes tied for the second position at the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic
Robert Garrigus carded a four-under par 68 in the final round of the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic, to finish tied for the second position, on Sunday, November 11, 2012.
The US$4.7 million PGA Tour event was being played at the Magnolia Golf Club and the Palm Golf Club in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
The American got off to a confident start by recording birdies on each of the first two holes that he played. However, a couple of bogeys on the fifth and the eighth hole took him back to an even-par score for the round.
He then made a strong charge by birdying four of the first five holes on the back nine of the course and followed that with four straight pars.
At the end of the day, he found himself settled for a 14-under par tournament score, two strokes behind the winner, Charlie Beljan. Matt Every, in the meantime, also posted a 274 to join Garrigus on the leaderboard.
“That was another great tournament, another second place. This is No. 5 for the year. Almost made four million bucks, and it's a pretty special year. I wish I would have got the win, though,” said Garrigus.
Talking to the PGA Tour’s official website, he also stated that he tried his best to chase Beljan on top of the leaderboard.
Beljan, in the meantime, recovered well after conceding a double bogey on the 13th hole by carding a birdie on the very next hole and maintained his lead till the end of the day.
“I never gave up. I never do give up,” Garrigus said. “That's one of my mottos is just keep going, having fun with it”.
He continued, “You never know what's going to happen, you know, and I started making some putts and hitting some great shots, and it's just one of those things, you just gotta keep going and see what happens”.
According to Garrigus, he was unable to pressurize Beljan, especially after recording par putts on each of the last four holes.
He said that he could have forced the game to enter into the playoffs. However, he was not able to create any birdie chances in the final moments of the tournament.
