Robert Garrigus happy while entering the weekend at the RBC Canadian Open
Robert Garrigus may not have the lead in the RBC Canadian Open, but the American insists that he is very happy at heading into the weekend with a third place at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club.
Garrigus started off his round two strokes behind the opening round leader, Scott Piercy. A four-under par 66 on day two settled him just one stroke off the pace set by William McGirt and Piercy at 11-under par.
According to him, he could have done even better, but the putter did not work as well for him as he wanted.
While playing the 14th and 15th hole, he had the chance of scoring birdies. However, the ball bruised the hole both the times and he settled for par on each of them.
“I'm hitting it well, rolling it okay. I missed a couple of short putts for birdie. I could be 1 ahead right now, but that's all right,” he said.
His tee shot on the 16th hole missed the cup by few inches but he finally managed to make a birdie putt on that.
“I was kind of pissed at the guy who cut the cup. He could have cut a little to the left so I could have had a hole in one,” said the 34-year-old American, who won his only PGA Tour title at the 2010 Children's Miracle Network Classic.
“But that was a great shot. I hit two great shots on 17, made birdie, hit a couple good on 18, just didn't make the putt, but it was good going into the weekend”.
Overall, it was a good score, considering the fact that the course conditions were relatively difficult compared to the opening round.
In the meantime, Bo Van Pelt surged to the sole fourth position after recording a four-under par 66 for a nine-under two-round score.
South African Tim Clark fired the best round of the day, as he managed to sign six birdies and an amazing eagle for an eight-under par 62. He tied for the fifth place, along with Vijay Singh (67) and Josh Teater (65).
