Robert Gesink and Bauke Mollema extended with Team Rabobank till 2014
Robert Gesink and Bauke Mollema, both have decided to extend their stay with Team Rabobank. Both the cyclists will ride with the Dutch squad till the end of 2014.
The two riders have helped the team with a number of victories over the years and are considered to be key components of the side.
Team Rabobank is preparing for the current year, as Gesink and Mollema are also warming up to kick off their 2012 season.
Mollema joined the team in 2008, right at the start of his professional career. The cyclist has now agreed to dedicate his seventh consecutive season to the side.
He is considered to be the best climber in the sport and has helped the Dutch squad with numerous brilliant performances over the years.
Bauke also holds three Grand Tour appearances to his name, one Giro, one Tour and one Vuelta a Espana participation.
His best performance at the mega event was during the Vuelta a Espana 2011, as he claimed the fourth overall spot at the event.
He was also elected as the Dutch Male Rider of the Year and joined the side one year after Gesink.
The cyclist was overjoyed after extending the contract, "I feel very happy with my situation at Rabobank and am happy that the confidence is mutual. It's great news that we have at least three more years together".
Robert Gesink is the second Dutch rider to have extended his stay with Rabobank Cycling Team.
He started his professional career in 2007 and is keen to ride with the side for his 8th successive season through 2014.
The 25-year-old holds three Tour de France and two Vuelta a Espana participations under his belt.
He finished 33rd at Tour de France 2011 and his best Grand Tour performance was at the Vuelta a Espana 2009, as he claimed the 6th overall spot.
Robert briefed after finishing the paperwork, "I am very happy that I will be staying longer with the team, the atmosphere is good. You notice here every day at the training camp in Mallorca. I feel I can really develop with this group of colleagues".
Team Rabobank finished 10th at the UCI Team’s Classifications as of October 2011.
It secured a total number of 673 points during the past season and is optimistic to improve its performance for the season ahead.
