Robert Gesink desperate for a win at the Tour of California
Robert Gesink of Team Rabobank is having a dry season and the cyclist is desperate in need of a victory at the Amgen Tour of California.
He has a lot of pressure from the team management to produce results this season but has not been able to achieve the targets.
The 25-year-old had a terrific past season and filled his bag with numerous victories including the overall victory at the Tour of Oman.
The cyclist also achieved the young rider’s classification along with the stage 4 and the stage 5 victory at the event.
He finished second overall at the Tirreno-Adriatico, Grand Prix Cycliste de Quebec and achieved the third overall position during the Tour of the Basque Country.
Gesink seems really worried about his future with the Dutch side and briefed that Rabobank is one of the largest bank and the organisers want to have only the best riders on its panel.
He noted that the Tour de France and the Tour de Suisse are his main targets for the current season but he is also desperate to bag a victory at the ongoing Tour of California.
Robert broke his leg during a training crash last September and has not registered any wins since then.
He briefed, "I've been struggling since my broken leg last year”.
“So I am dying to get a result, of course, because that's what you become a cyclist for – you want to win races. So I could really use a good result".
"Of course, it's always a question of where you are exactly in the race," he said. "But if there's a chance in this Tour of California I'll take it”.
“From the beginning you have to not lose any time, and then see how it goes in the two uphill finishes. That could be an advantage being off 11 days of altitude”.
Gesink finished the opening stage of the race at the 40th position and currently holds the 43rd overall spot after the stage 1 classifications.
He is now eyeing the remaining stages of the Californian stage to help his team with a much needed victory in the current season.
