Robert Gesink to warming up for the Tour de France and the Vuelta a Espana in the 2012 season
Robert Gesink of Team Rabobank has not opened his 2012 winning account yet but the cyclist is certain of his form for the coming part of the season.
Tour de France 2012 is the biggest part of his current season along with the Vuelta a Espana.
Robert was eyeing at the Liege-Bastogne-Liege to fine-tune his form ahead of the Tour but could not really perform to his capabilities.
He had to settle for the 57th overall place as Maxim Iglinskiy of Team Astana crossed the finish line in a fastest time of 6 hours, 43 minutes and 52 seconds.
Vincenzo Nibali of Team Liquigas-Cannondale, Enrico Gasparotto of Team Astana and Thomas Voeckler of Team Europcar finished at the second, the third and the fourth positions.
While commenting on his current form, Gesink told Cyclingnews, "My form is getting better and better but I've noticed that it's still a bit early to have great expectations”.
“I'm getting there and I'm happy with it at the moment but my top level is still not high enough to compete with the best, but it's only been few months since I could walk again”.
“So for now everyone is happy with how it goes but it's still early", he concluded.
Robert joined Team Rabobank in 2007 and has continued with the team for the sixth consecutive season.
He finished fifth during the Tour de France 2010 and claimed the 33rd overall spot at the most recent version of the French Grand Tour.
Gesink also holds two Vuelta participations under his belt. He secured the 7th and the 6th overall positions during the 2008 and the 2009 editions of the Spanish Grand Tour.
The 25-year-old has just recovered from a serious leg injury and believes that the recovery process is just in time for the Tour.
He cited, "It should be enough time. I think the Tour won't be problems and I'm looking forward to racing a bit more and getting to the level I was".
Robert is also planning to test his form at the Tour of California which will give him a better idea of his racing legs ahead of the Tour de France 2012.
