Robert Gesink wins the Amgen Tour of California 2012
Winner of the penultimate stage of the Amgen Tour of California, Robert Gesink has marked the biggest win of the 2007 season after his tremendous performance at the eight-stage race.
He claimed an overall victory after the final general classifications and overcame his major competitors.
David Zabriskie of Team Garmin-Barracuda, Thomas Danielson of Garmin-Barracuda, Tejay Van Garderen of Team BMC and Fabio Andres Duarte Arevalo of Team Colombia-Coldeportes achieved the second, the third, the fourth and the fifth positions in the respective
order.
The cyclist was delighted after crossing the finish line and appreciated his team’s performance during the contest.
He briefed, "It's moments like this, when you have your good times and your wins, that's what you do it for".

"We have an amazing team here and the guys supported me all the way through. I had some tough months after breaking my leg and all that happened before that".
"It's a victory my team was waiting for, and this is an important race for us. Previously, I won the young rider's jersey and this time I won the overall jersey".
"Emotionally it's big for me. It is good to be back in California and to be winning again," he concluded.
The 25-year-old started riding professional with Team Rabobank in 2007 and has shown his loyalty with the Dutch side.
He is currently riding with the team for the sixth consecutive season and has previously helped the team with several top performances.
 Sagan holds as many as six Grand Tour appearances under his belt including three Tour de France and three Vuelta a Espana participations to his credit.
He finished 7th during the Vuelta a Espana 2008 and occupied the 6th overall spot during the 2009 edition of the Spanish Grand Tour.
Gesink has taken his time to register the first victory of the 2012 season.

He had a tremendous past season and filled his bag with several victories including the top overall spot during the Tour of Oman 2011.
He finished second during the Tirreno-Adriatico and third at the Tour of Basque country; he also bagged stages at the Tour of Oman and the Tirreno-Adriatico 2011.
Robert is now positive for the coming events of the season and is determined to continue his winning momentum for the coming part of the season.
