Robert Griffin III dominant as Washington Redskins rout Philadelphia Eagles 31-6 – NFL Week 11 Recap
Quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3) once again proved to be a hero for his team, this time having a near perfect game, as Washington Redskins routed Philadelphia Eagles, 31-6, on Sunday, November 18, 2012, at FedEx Field.
The win ended the Redskins’ three-game losing streak, while stretched the Eagles’ losing streak to six games.
Eagles rookie quarterback Nick Foles could not make a lasting impression in his first National Football League (NFL) start as the offence struggled badly and could only get two field goals in the entire game.
Foles finished with completing 21 of his 46 passes for 204 yards and also sent two interceptions.
On the other hand, his Redskins’ counterpart, RG3, was outstanding. The Redskins quarterback completed 14 of his 15 passes for 200 yards and got a touchdown each in all four quarters. He also rushed for 84 yards on 12 attempts.
Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan commented on RG3’s performance with a grin:
"Except for the one incompletion, I think he did OK. He played hard; it wasn't easy by any means."
Redskins wide receiver Santana Moss, who received a touchdown pass from RG3 in the third quarter, said of the rookie:
"I'm tired of talking about Robert. Nothing's going to change; Robert's going to go out there and be special. That's the gift that he has, he's a special guy. He brings that kind of `specialness.' I don't know if that's a word, but he brings it to our offence."
The win also improved Redskins’ standings in National Football Conference (NFC) East. They are now placed at third spot, behind defending Super Bowl champions New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys, while Eagles have now been pushed at the bottom of the division.
Eagles were nowhere in the game as the hosts kept a dominant edge throughout the four quarters.
Redskins took an early lead when RG3 sent a touchdown pass to Darrel Young. Eagles got a field goal in the second quarter, but Redskins replied even dominantly as RG3 connected with Aldrick Robinson for a touchdown, which was followed by a field goal.
After halftime, Eagles once again tried to come back in the game and got a field goal, but they again got a hard reply from RG3 as he found Moss and sent a touchdown pass.
In the final quarter, RG3 connected with Logan Paulsen for a touchdown and easily sealed the victory.
The win has also addressed some of the Redskins’ concerns. They were struggling to find momentum on the defence, but Eagles’ loopholes provided Redskins defence a chance to find its rhythm.
Eagles are hoping to get back in the competition, but their playoff hopes seem over now. They will face Carolina Panthers in the next game, while Redskins will now take on Cowboys.
