Robert Griffin III feels urge to perform better than Washington Redskins’ QB Rex Grossman–NFL News
With just one day left in the beginning of the National Football League (NFL) 2012 draft, Indianapolis Colts, who own the first overall pick, have confirmed that they will select Stanford’s quarterback, Andrew Luck, leaving the other top prospect, Robert
Griffin III (RG3) of Baylor College, an apparent choice for the Washington Redskins, who own the second pick.
However, it should be noted that Colts are going to start with Luck as they have no other option after they released veteran quarterback, Peyton Manning.
On the other hand, Redskins’ scenario is completely different. They already have Rex Grossman serving as their quarterback and RG3 feels that he will have to compete and play hard to beat out Grossman to earn the starting role with the team.
While addressing media at a pre-draft even in New York on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, RG3 mentioned Grossman’s presence in Washington and said that he will have to prove his talent.
He commented:
“I have to go in and prove it to them. You can’t come in thinking that you’re a big-dog. I might be the second pick, I might be who the fans want as a quarterback and the coaches want as a quarterback but I’ve still got to go beat out Rex Grossman.”
RG3 added:
“Rex Grossman is the quarterback in Washington right now and I’ve got to go beat him out. I’ve got to prove to those guys that I’m there to work and I will, it’s who I am. I’ll be the first one in, last one out and it won’t be a cliché with me.”
Redskins were able to win only five games in the last NFL season as they ended up at the last spot in the National Football Conference (NFC) West division after losing 11 games.
Grossman played and started 13 games in which he completed 265 passes of 458 attempts for 3,151 yards. The quarterback sent 16 touchdown-passes and threw 20 interceptions and received a quarterback rating of 72.4.
Apparently, the management was not satisfied with Grossman’s performance and that’s why Redskins acquired the second overall pick in a trade with St. Louis Rams.
Although RG3 is claiming to work hard and beat out Grossman, Redskins will not have any other option but to start with RG3 in the next season.
