Robert Griffin III says criticism will only make him stronger - NFL News
Robert Griffin III was Baylor University’s most celebrated quarterback as he helped his team to its first Bowl game since 1994 and in the process became the first player from Baylor to win the Heisman Trophy.
The young quarterback has his fair share of fans already and with Washington Redskins in the front seat to draft Griffin in this year’s drafts their fans are already excited at the prospect of a franchise quarterback arriving in the American Capital.
Griffin had not received one ounce of criticism during both the National Football League (NFL) Combine as well as on his Pro-Day as the scouts who observed him were significantly impressed with the youngster’s talent with the ball.
However, one scout was not impressed with Griffin’s people skills and called him selfish during an interview with Bob McGinn of the
Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
The scout who did not reveal his name said.
"Everybody is just assuming because of the Heisman and the socks and all that bs. . . . they are ignoring a lot of bad tape that he's had. I don't think he has vision or pocket feel, which to me are the two most important components of quarterbacking. He's
just running around winging it. He's (Michael) Vick, but not as good a thrower."
The Baylor graduate also received criticism over his abilities by Denver Broncos linebacker, Von Miller who faced Griffin during his days with Texas A&M and said that the quarterback is not as special as he is made out to be.
Griffin on his part is taking all the criticism on the chin and answered back through his Twitter account on Friday.
“I'm fueled by faith family & what I represent. Small town kids, Military, & Kids dreaming everywhere. Doubters increase the power of my fuel.”
Looking at Griffin’s final season statistics for Baylor University it is hard to see what all the criticism is about.
The young quarterback passed for 4,293 yards in his 2011 Heisman Trophy year and threw 37 touchdown passes. He enters the drafts with an impressive passer rating of 131.4.
Now he just has to prove himself in the NFL and only with his performances with the Redskins in 2012-13 can the young quarterback shoot down his critics as well as prove that all the praise he received was deserved.
