Robert Griffin III well received at Washington Redskins training camp – NFL News
Although Washington Redskins first-round pick of this year’s draft Robert Griffin III (RG3) is yet to make his National Football League (NFL) debut, he is being treated at training camp as if he is a pro.
When the rookie quarterback arrived at training camp on Thursday, July 26, 2012, no one received him as a youngster hoping to learn from his seniors. In fact, the players are looking at him as a saviour.
It is not hidden from anyone that RG3’s selection as second overall draft pick this year is aimed at revamping the Redskins tarnished reputation. Their record of the last three seasons is not very encouraging.
In the 2009 season, they finished the season with winning only four games, and lost 12. In the 2010 season, they won six games and lost 10 and in the 2011 season they lost 11 and won only five. Moreover, they have not qualified for playoffs for the last
four seasons.
RG3’s arrival is expected to change the fortune for the Redskins, but it is too early to tell if the rookie can live up to the expectations.
However, the players around the quarterback certainly think so and that is why they are giving him the special treatment.
Redskins tight end Chris Cooley told the Associated Press about RG3 and the treatment he is getting:
“No one treats him like a rookie. You can't. He's the starter for us. You have to treat him like a starting quarterback. There's nothing that he does that says, 'We should haze you.' He's been a real professional since the day he walked through the door.
“
The tight end added:
“I'm amazed every day by the way he handles it, his ability to run this offence. He's done a fantastic job. I can't imagine being suited more for the position he's in."
The next few weeks are going to be very important for Redskins. The players will have a final chance to adjust and develop chemistry with RG3 while the rookie must also focus on implementing the playbook effectively.
Redskins face serious challenge in the National Football Conference (NFC) East this year in presence of Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants.
