Robert Guerrero: Marcos Maidana comes to fight and puts on a lot of pressure – Boxing news
Former International Boxing Federation’s Featherweight champion and a former two-time International Boxing Federation’s featherweight champion of the world, Robert Guerrero admits the El Chino, Marcos Maidana is one of the most feared fighters out there.
The Ghost, Robert Guerrero, has agreed with the public opinion and will take on the current World Boxing Association’s interim Super Lightweight champion, Marcos Maidana on August 27, 2011 in San Jose, California.
However, Guerrero reckons Maidana will be one of his toughest challenges so far. The 28-year-old American pugilist, who has won 29 of his 33 (1 draw, 2 no contests) professional fights including 18 by the way of a knockout, told the media Maidana is a feared
slugger as he always come in the ring to fight.
Guerrero discussed Maidana’s bout against the new unified IBF and WBA World Light Welterweight Champion, Amir Khan. Maidana lost the fight through a unanimous points’ decision but it was an excellent effort.
Khan in the first round forced Maidana to crash down to the canvas with a dazzling body shot but Maidana got up. Khan was also dominating in the rest of the fight before Maidana clawed back in the tenth round and went close to register a knockout win over
Khan.
Therefore, Guerrero has a lot of respect for the 28-year-old Argentinean combatant. Guerrero stated he personally feels had there been no referee, Maidana would have knocked out Khan.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “He had Amir Khan out on his feet. If you look at the Amir Khan fight, I honestly feel that if it wasn’t for Joe Cortez breaking them up every second that they got close to each other, he would have knocked Amir
Khan out. Maidana comes to fight. He puts on pressure.”
“He has been down with body shots and gets up. He has been knocked down and came back to knock his opponent out. He has that game changing power,” Guerrero added.
The Guerrero-Maidana bout will certainly be a promising match. However let’s see if Guerrero can shrug off Maidana.
