Robert Guerrero defeats Andre Berto via unanimous decision – Boxing News
Robert ‘The Ghost’ Guerrero had promised to tame Andre ‘The Beast’ Berto in the ring, and so he did. Guerrero won via unanimous decision, even though he was close to a knockout. During the fight, Guerrero managed to put Berto on the mat twice, but could
not score a knockout.
“I did tell Andre I was going to beat him down, so I had to be a man of my word,” said Guerrero who had the fight 116-110 by all three judges.
“But he did defend himself like a true champ. ... I had to get on the inside with him, work his body and fight him on the inside,” Guerrero added.
The former featherweight and super featherweight champion from Gilroy, California, called out the current WBC welterweight titlist Floyd Mayweather Jr. for a match. Since both fighters have relationships with Golden Boy Promotions, it seems like the fight
can happen.
“Pretty Boy, let's do it,” said Guerrero.
Berto, who now stands with 28 wins and 2 losses, started slow but was able to take the fight to Guerrero during the mid rounds. A blow to the eye from Guerrero in the second round caused Berto vision disruption throughout the fight, yet he fought like a
warrior.
It should be noted here that Berto is going through a rough patch in his career. He was once being considered the next big thing in the world of boxing but no more. Now, he has two losses in his last three fights and a failed drug test patch earlier this
year which caused him to lose out on a match against Victor Ortiz.
As Guerrero had promised, he made sure to tame ‘The Beast’ inside the ring. He was at his best and was impressive and so was Berto. The fight was an epic battle but eventually one had to lose. Unfortunately, it was Berto who had to face another loss, pushing
his career to further decline.
Now, Guerrero is hoping to get a big fight against the titans, probably Mayweather as he has pointed out. If not the unbeaten American then Guerrero can find another worthy opponent to take his career towards further boom.
