Robert Guerrero defeats Selcuk Aydin – Boxing News
Robert Guerrero defeated Selcuk Aydin on Saturday night to prove he is good enough even when he moves up in weight. This was Robert’s first fight in almost a year, and he did not leave his fans disappointed.
Guerrero is currently looking forward to a match against WBC welterweight titlist Floyd Mayweather. The unbeaten American will release from jail in August and will decide if he wants to face Guerrero. However, it should be noted here that Guerrero has cemented
his place as the number one contender for Mayweather after defeating Aydin.
“I felt great at welterweight. I wanted to fight the best and that's why I fought Selcuk. No one in the division wanted to fight him. He's been avoided. I came in and took care of business. I believe in my talents and I boxed and used my skills tonight,”
said Robert who moved up in weight just to face Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather.
While talking about Selcuk’s fighting capabilities, Robert said, “He hit hard. He never hurt me anytime. He's got some punching power. He's one of the hardest punching guys in the division. He can throw a bomb and he landed some bombs on me. I just shrugged
them off and kept going."
Guerrero is hopeful of facing Floyd Mayweather for the championship after the champion is out of jail. However, it is not sure whether Floyd will take up the challenge.
Floyd Mayweather has already received manifold challenges from fighter in the division, among which the biggest challenge is of Manny Pacquiao, the former WBO welterweight titlist.
Considering Pacquiao’s demand to face Mayweather in November, there are chances that the unbeaten American would succumb to it. After all, the mega bout will be the biggest earning event in the history of boxing, if it happens.
On the other hand, Mayweather and Pacquaio’s promoters have indicated that the two will not be facing each other this year. According to Bob Arum, Pacquiao’s promoter, Floyd Mayweather is in jail and there is no certainty as to whether he would want to face
Pacquiao or not when he is released.
As of now, the moment is of Guerrero to celebrate.
