Robert Guerrero hopeful of nailing Selcuk Aydin in their upcoming bout – Boxing news
Robert Guerrero, the former WBA world and WBO lightweight champion, has warned Selcuk Aydin to be careful as he now feels 10 times stronger than before and can do things that have never been done before.
Guerrero, who left the ring due to a left rotator-cuff injury, is now making a comeback after the lapse of almost 14 months. Robert, also known as ‘The Ghost’, last collided with Michael Katsidis and collected an impressive unanimous decision to grab the
interim WBA world and WBO lightweight titles.
Unfortunately, after the injury, Robert had to leave the ring in order to undergo thorough examination which included surgeries as well. This will be the 28-year-old’s first fight after the comeback and the American proud is looking forward to make it a
memorable one by jumping two divisions up at the same time.
The former lightweight belligerent will make his welterweight debut against Selcuk Aydin, the former WBC Silver welterweight champion. Aydin, 28, is also making a comeback after almost seven months.
The Turkish pounder boasts an undefeated streak in a total of 23 bouts. Also known as ‘Mini-Tyson’, Aydin has pinned 17 of his opponents by sheer knockout. Moreover, he has collected wins over pretty big names and above all resides at World Boxing Organisation’s
18th rank.
The duo recently met at the pre-bout press conference and shared their thoughts about the bout. Aydin adopted an aggressive stance and dubbed Robert’s talk as the ‘talk of a politician’.
Selcuk stated, “You speak like a politician. You need to spend more time training and strengthening your jaw because I’m going to break it.” In reply to the Turkish pounders harsh vow, Robert just commented that he is ready to face anything thrown by Aydin.
Guerrero was of the view that since the surgery he is feeling 10 times stronger, adding that now he wants to do crazy things and jumping two weight classes at the same time is one of them.
Robert remarked, “My whole career, my other muscle were compensating for the rotator cuff. After the surgery I worked on all my muscles working together and I feel 10 times stronger. I have a lot more pop in my left and I can do things never done before.
I’ve got everything working together.”
Taking on Aydin and above all nailing the Turkish belligerent will definitely be an uphill task for Robert who will enter his 34th career bout with 29 wins, one loss and one draw decision.
