http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Cricket Board’s (WICB) selector, Robert Haynes, has lauded the national side’s veteran batsman, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, for posting a superb performance on the just concluded Test match against the Indian hosts, and has urged the youth batsmen
to learn from the maestro’s adaptability to varying conditions.
Caribbean newspaper, ‘the Jamaican’, reported Haynes as saying, “The young batsmen need to take a leaf out of Shiv's book. He’s a true professional and every innings he plays in Test cricket is a lesson in batting. He demonstrates how to play based on the
conditions and how to construct an innings.”
During the preceding 3-match series opening match at the Feroz Shah Kotla venue in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kraigg-Brathwaite-c71708,
who stepped into a partnership with Chanderpaul when the Caribbean roster had lost 3 wickets after scoring 72 runs.
Unfortunately for the pair, the batters could not settle into a partnership after Brathwaite made an eventual departure off Pragyan Ojha’s delivery, after scoring an impressive half century worth 63 runs, leaving http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marlon-Nathaniel-Samuels-c74804 to accompany Chanderpaul.
However, Marlon too was forced into making his exit after youth spinner; http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Ashwin-c2228 secured the middle order player’s wicket after a minor addition of 15 runs.
As for Chanderpaul’s stint, the Caribbean batting maestro retained his stance till the eventual wrap-up to his team’s line-up, after top-scoring the roster with 118 runs, steering the Windians to score 304 runs.
Although the visitors crawled on to losing the series opener, but for Chanderpaul, the left armer batted another high score for his team, but fell just 3 runs short of a half century.
However, Haynes feels that the senior lot has already cemented an improved ground but there is still more to cover under the batting department.
“In recent times we are beginning to see in the Test team that batsmen like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DM-Bravo-c1386 are beginning to apply themselves and understand their role but there is more work which needs to be done to get us to where we want to be as a team,”
Haynes said.
