Robert Hunter will join Tyler Farrar as he signs with team Garmin for the coming seasons
Winner at the Tour of Mumbai 2011 Robert Hunter has signed a two year contract with his old team Garmin Cervelo and will be sprinting along with the American rider Tyler Farrar for coming seasons. Hunter is considered as one of the best sprinters in the
sport and was the first South African cyclist to have completed the Tour de France 2001.
He has secured stage wins at the Tour de France 2004 and at Vuelta a Espana in 1999 and 2001 as he leaded his team Barloworld in the 2007 Tour de France claiming the first ever stage win by a South African cyclist. Robert has won the Cyclist of the Year
Award five times in South Africa during 2001 and 2007. Team Garmin Cervelo was established in 2007 and is based in United States as Jonathan Vaughters is taking the responsibilities as the directeur sportif for the team.
The 34-year-old was excited on signing the contract as he said, "I will be back with Garmin-Cervélo next year and the year after, I have signed a two-year contract with the team. I am very happy with my decision. I think I will be racing a bit of everything
from the stage races to the one-day races. One of the main reasons why I went back to the team was to work with Tyler again."
Hunter mentioned that a lot of riders are leaving the team Garmin by the end of this year and this will be a good time to prove himself in the squad. He believes that his inclusion in the team can be really helpful especially because he has worked with Tyler
Farrar before and both of them can match up to help the team win the Grand Tour Stages in the coming seasons.
Garmin Cervelo was known as team Garmin-Transitions in 2010 when Hunter joined the team and only after a year of his joining the team merged with Cervelo. In 2011 Robert switched to team RadioShack in that he was uncomfortable with the team merger.
Hunter will now be representing team Garmin Cervelo for the coming seasons and will stay with the team until 2013. It will be interesting to see how he teams up with the American cyclist Farrar and helps Jonathan Vaughter’s team in the coming events.
