Robert Hurley earns Men’s 100m backstroke gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Robert Hurley of Australia secured gold medal of the Men’s 100m backstroke on day one of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Stockholm, Sweden on Saturday, October 13.
The Australian swimmer spoiled the party of his opponents in the 100m discipline as he rushed his way towards the finishing blockade for gold medal.
With his invincible efforts in the four-lap discipline, Hurley managed to overpower his toughest competitor over the finishing end. He stayed just a touch ahead of his strongest rival and secured gold medal of the event by touching the wall with a wonderful timing of 50.38 seconds.
His gold winning effort remained 0.04 seconds slower from Stanislav Donets of Russia, who stayed 0.04 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall for silver medal by producing a time of 50.42 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Ashley Delaney of Australia, who stayed nearly full body length apart and transpired on the finishing end for bronze medal with a timing of 51.35 seconds.
Delaney was traced by Guilherme Guido of Brazil, who stayed 0.40 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and touched the wall for fourth position with an effort of 51.75 seconds.
Fifth best spot of the event was obtained by Yuki Shirai of Japan, who stayed 0.15 seconds behind and finished his race in a time of 51.90 seconds.
Subsequently, Shirai was followed by Hayate Matsubara of Japan, who stayed 0.33 seconds slower from his former finisher and appeared on the finishing end with a timing of 52.23 seconds.
Matsubara was trailed by Gabriel Mangabeira of Brazil, who was 0.40 seconds slower from his former finisher and concluded his race in seventh place by submitting a time of 52.63 seconds.
Mangabeira enjoyed a benefit of 0.97 seconds over Lavrans Solli of Norway, who failed to overwhelm any of his opponents and ended his race in eighth place by clocking a time of 53.60 seconds.
In addition, Hurley received a huge round of applause from the crowd for his notable efforts in the backstroke discipline and raked medal at the prize ceremony of the event.
