Robert Hurley seizes Men’s 400m freestyle gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Robert Hurley of Australia seized gold medal of the Men’s 400m freestyle on opening day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Stockholm, Sweden on Saturday, October 13.
The Australian swimmer smothered his opponents in the mediocre distant freestyle event as he overwhelmed the defending champion and world record holder, Paul Biedermann of Germany.
Hurley enjoyed a comfortable lead over his toughest opponent from the start and paved his way to the finishing wall for gold medal by submitting a time of 3 minutes and 43.75 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Biedermann, who failed to live up to the expectations of his supporters as he remained considerably slower from his personal best and lost the race.
Biedermann stayed one and a half body length slower from his foregoing finisher and touched the wall with a timing of 3 minutes and 45.14 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Marcos Oliveira of Brazil, who was 0.75 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end for bronze medal by producing an effort of 3 minutes and 45.89 seconds.
Oliveira was chased by Lucas Kanieski of Brazil, who stayed 0.20 seconds slower from upsetting his preceding swimmer and settled on the wall as fourth best finisher with a timing of 3 minutes and 46.09 seconds.
Subsequently, Kanieski remained 2.16 seconds faster from his following swimmer, Gregorio Paltrinieri of Italy, who finished fifth in the event by clocking a time of 3 minutes and 48.25 seconds.
Sixth spot of the event was obtained by Leonardo Fim of Brazil, who stayed three body lengths behind and touched the wall with an effort of 3 minutes and 51.18 seconds.
Fim enjoyed an advantage of 0.92 seconds over Stefan Sorak of Serbia, who posted a time of 3 minutes and 52.10 seconds.
Sorak remained 3.31 seconds ahead of Andrew Meegan of Ireland, who finished his race in eighth place by clocking an effort of 3 minutes and 55.41 seconds.
Furthermore, Hurley was contented with his gold claiming effort and said that he would continue his hard work to achieve the same in future.
